At the heart of the SM48 is its signature stainless steel crank wheel and cable system, which allows the cooking grate to be raised or lowered smoothly over the fire. This provides instant control over cooking temperatures, making it easy to switch between high-heat searing and low-and-slow cooking without moving food or adjusting coals manually.

The grill features a large stainless steel cooking grate that provides ample space for cooking for crowds, along with a hinged front firebox panel for easy access to the charcoal bed. A modular grate system allows optional accessories such as griddles, chicken flippers, and seafood baskets to be used interchangeably, adding versatility to open-fire cooking.
